Midfielder Tom Bayliss praised Lincoln City‘s togetherness during a run that has seen the Imps win only one of their last 12 games.

Following their goalless draw against Stevenage, Bayliss spoke about the positive second-half display which saw the Imps on top for most of it. However, they could not find a winner, as the goal drought extended to 378 minutes without hitting the back of the net

He said: “We can’t be negative all the time about where we are. Yes, we have lost some football matches but we have got the quality in the squad to go and win football matches in this league and get us up as high as possible.

“It’s not been the best of periods but we are working hard, but the second half today we can use and build to go again.”

While building on performances is one thing, the summer signing was keen to highlight the squad togetherness during this difficult time, echoing recent thoughts of Imps head coach Michael Skubala.

He said: “We came in and wanted to win, we haven’t won many recently and we need to stick together as players and it’s not through a lack of effort, but I think we are working hard on the training pitch and hopefully the results will turn around.”

Bayliss had been sidelined with injury and was pleased to get back amongst the starting eleven for the first time since October.

He said: “It’s great being back out there with the lads, I’ve been injured, and I’ve had to build myself up to play games again and it’s nice to be back out there and hopefully I can help the team, building back to full fitness.”

Lincoln have faced criticism over recent weeks in the context of their torrid run. Bayliss reflected on the support that the Imps are recieving, and said: “The fans are going to be anxious at this time because we haven’t won many games recently. We can only show what we are trying to do on the pitch to keep them behind us.

“I thought their support in the second half was really good. They kept us going and we had a really big chance at the end but at the minute that’s not dropping for us. We need to work hard and turn it around.”

City next play on Saturday, January 11, when they travel to face Birmingham City in the FA Cup.
