Ethan Hamilton cut a frustrated figure following the Lincoln City‘s defeat to Rotherham United on New Year’s Day.
He said the Imps “need to be better”, while their poor run of results stretched into 2025.
Joe Powell’s first Rotherham goal on 85 minutes was enough for Steve Evans’ side to steal all three points from the LNER Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
City midfielder Hamilton spoke post-match and said: “We know we need to be better than that. It was a frustrating game, one that we are disappointed with.”
The defeat extends the Imps’ dismal run over the festive period in Sky Bet League One, with Michael Skubala’s side picking up one win in their last eleven games.
Hamilton is keen to keep the squad together through this tough period.
He added: “The lads are disappointed. We know we need to stick together during this period and keep working hard which we do. We always work hard every week.
“We know we have the talent in there. We haven’t got any bad eggs in the dressing room; we just need to work our way through it and work as hard as we can. We know that we will come through this period that we are in at the minute.”
A standout player up until the goal was City goalkeeper George Wickens, who made three excellent saves at full stretch before Powell’s winner.
Hamilton praised the shot-stopper, and said: “He made some brilliant saves, especially in the second half. He’s a really good player. It was good for him to make a few saves, but it shouldn’t be getting to him to make them saves.”
The Scotsman is keen for the next game against Stevenage on Saturday, January 4, to give the side a chance to put New Years Day’s performance behind them.
He said: “When you lose a game you want to get back on the horse. With Stevenage coming here in a couple of days, we want to take the game to them.”
