Notts County Women snatched all three points late on, as Lincoln United were forced to leave Ashby Avenue empty handed.

At a wet and windy Sun-hat Villas & Resorts Stadium in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands, County took the lead on 14 minutes.

A cross from the right side by Takiah Parkes fell to Nicki Russell, who ghosted in at the near post to poke the ball home, deceiving Whites’ goalkeeper Sophie Gray.

This came after Lee Mitchell’s side had a chance to open the scoring on just three minutes, Betsy Thomas’ shot hit the post after good work by Lucy Farrow and Amy Copley.

The visitors nearly doubled their lead two minutes after notching the opener, when a good chance inside the box was steered wide of the left-hand post by former Lincoln City Women midfielder Leah Hardy.

However, The Whites drew level on 42 minutes, when Thomas, who was making her 50th appearance for the club, pulled the ball back on the left-hand side for Farrow.

She made no mistake, stroking a brilliant shot into the bottom right corner.

A bouncing volley by Lincoln’s Holly Wilson went narrowly wide of Ash Hind’s left-hand post after the hour mark.

That was followed by a chance at the other end, as a close-range finish from Russell was well saved by Gray in the Whites’ goal.

However, the Magpies turned the game on its head on 77 minutes, when substitute Shoniqua Barnes fired the ball home at the back post to steal the three points.

Three minutes later, the ball agonisingly dribbled across goal for the Whites, as Lincoln United went in search for an equaliser they could not find.

The result sees Lee Mitchell’s side remain in ninth place, just six points above the relegation zone. Their next game is a trip to Sutton Coldfield Town in a week’s time.
