A highly anticipated match saw Lincoln United beat fellow promotion-chasers Bourne Town.
The Whites took all points thanks to a Jaime Ture header and a second by Jack McMenemy, closing the gap to the top two.
Third met second coming into the game, with Bourne sitting nine points ahead of the hosts before the first whistle blew. Lincoln United, however, had a game in hand on the visitors.
A slow start
A stoppage of play was needed for Sean Wright after 14 minutes, as the defender was forced off through injury.
Robbie Ellis had an attempt for Bourne 20 minutes in, but the effort was hit over the ground, with no danger for Jack Steggles.
It was a cagey affair in the first-half, with both sides unable to create anything clear-cut in the final third.
Lincoln came close to opening the scoring late on in the half, as Scott Matthews had a header towards goal punched away by Dan Swan. The Whites put pressure on the Wakes in the final few minutes of the half.
Overall, United were the better of the two sides, but could not do enough to beat Swan and give them the leads.

Upped the tempo
The second-half was much more open than the first, with Bourne coming out faster as they looked to find a breakthrough. A free kick from the Wakes reached Brad Marshall, who flicked it back across goal before the ball was cleared of danger.
Ellis had a free header in the Lincoln box, but it was steered too far wide, with Bourne’s first big chance of the second half missed.
Paul Grimes had Lincoln’s first notable chance of the half, also from a set piece. A corner found him at the back post, but his effort after cutting inside was hit narrowly wide of the post.
Ture opened the scoring just under 20 minutes before full time. A corner was nodded on by the defender, and after confirmation from the linesman that the ball had crossed the line, the players wheeled away in celebration.
McMenemy then got Lincoln’s second just 10 minutes later. The striker anticipated Swan’s parry and took it around the goalkeeper before slotting it into the back of the net, doubling United’s lead.
New signing Josh Burniston thought he had a goal on his debut, but it was his shot hit that was pushed to McMenemy to give Lincoln the goal.
Despite sustained pressure from Bourne, Lincoln defended well and gave the Wakes very few chances as they left the pitch with a hard-fought three points. It did not stop the visitors scoring a consolation goal with the final kick of the game, though.
Next up for Lincoln United is a trip to Belper United on Saturday, February 8.
