Lindum Hockey are forced to settle for a point after being pegged back by Durham University in the resumption of the season.
The Lincoln-based outfit took the lead with two goals in the first six minutes, and again in the third quarter, before the game ended 3-3 despite late pressure. It was a result that kept Lindum among the relegation-threatened pack.
A quick start:
Lindum hit the front in the first minute, as Sam Dixon converted from a short corner.
That lead was doubled five minutes later, with Jacob Barnes leading a devastating counter attack. He paraded into the Durham half, and played the ball out wide to Angus Graham.
Graham did the rest, cutting in from the left and firing an effort under the visiting goalkeeper.
Lindum made a couple of mistakes in possession, sitting back as Durham began to come forward. Their pressure told in the 12th minute when Josh Barrott tipped in a long-range Kristofer Watt effort.
Durham were three games without victory before the winter break, but were working hard to try and halt their season-long winless streak away from home.
Barrott added his and Durham’s second before the end of the opening quarter, reacting first to net the rebound from a strong Dan Garlick save.
Lindum Hockey hitting the front again:
After an end-to-end second quarter that brought very few chances, Lindum retook the lead. Matt Goodley had a snapshot from the edge of the area, snipping it into the top corner.
Then came the Durham pressure once again. They had reacted well to going behind for the second time, as Barrott fired an effort wide when searching for his hat trick.

Durham missed a chance at the back post, before a penalty corner led to the equaliser.
Dixon had smacked the frame of the goal, before Harry Antill’s driven cross evaded a final touch at the other end.
The lively Barrott won a short corner for the visitors, which forced an incredible triple stop. Garlick saved from Dominic Smith and Watt, before a block on the line denied a third effort at the end of the scramble.
A penalty shot was awarded after an infringement in the melee, with Watt stepping up to fire the ball into the bottom right corner.
Late pressure on Durham University:
At the end of the third quarter, Ben Read’s shot produced a fine save from close range as Lindum posed a real threat.
Durham looked content with a point on the road, but did force a strong stop through captain Jayden Zamler.
Graham tipped one wide after a sweeping counter attacking move and Barnes had an effort blocked, before late controversy.
Barnes was about to pull the trigger on a shot just yards out when the umpire blew his whistle to deny him and award a short corner. Lindum twice had efforts blocked for the resulting penalty, before Durham managed to clear their zone and escape with a point.
Stuart Cunnington’s side return to the LSA on Saturday, February 8, for the visit of Loughborough University.
