Tom Hamer was pleased with Lincoln City’s defensive display, but highlighted how Exeter City’s change of shape in the second half of the goalless draw caused issues for the Imps.
Hamer, having recently returned from a long-term injury, started his third game in the last four at the LNER Stadium – contributing to a second consecutive clean sheet.
Hamer said: “Defenders are always happy to get clean sheets, that’s two in our last two games, but I think we were just missing that last bit of quality to get the goals.
“We dominated the ball, but our quality in front of goal just wasn’t there today. We’ve proven in our last two home games that we can score goals and create chances. Today was just one of those days.”
Lincoln extended their unbeaten home run to three games, but were unable to record a third successive Sincil Bank victory.

Identifying The Grecians’ change of shape after the interval, Hamer explained how that led to the defence seeing more possession and the difficulties it brought the Imps when it comes to breaking down their opponents.
He said: “The second half they sat in more, me and Paudie [O’Connor] had a lot more of the ball as they sat deeper.
“It’s tough as a defender when they sit in that much because everybody is picked up so there aren’t very many passes to play.”
Hamer was full of praise for the job he and his centre-back partner O’Connor when discussing the threat Josh Magennis posed in the first-half.
“He is a big physical presence, that’s his game. He uses his body well, he’s a big unit but I thought we dealt with him well,” Hamer said. “There were a couple of moments when he beat us in the air, but that’s going to happen when you play against a player like him.”
Lincoln travel to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, March 29, in their next Sky Bet League One outing.
