Lincoln United remain in charge of the title race despite an Eastwood CFC comeback securing a sharing of the points.

The game began as a nervy affair, as both sides eased into the game. Eastwood dominated possession, but did very little with the ball.

In the ninth minute, hesitancy in the Lincoln United defence allowed Turkey Blake to capitalise. He struck the post from 12 yards.

Down the other end, Gbolahan Okewoye beat his man down the right-wing and pulled the ball back to Jack McMenemy. His effort was tame and cleared from danger.

A high foot from Sean Wright on Aaron O’Connor sparked more tension into the game, and after shouts for a red card the referee produced the yellow. From the resulting free-kick, Jack Steggles made a good reflex save to adjust to a deflection.

A quickly taken free-kick allowed Owen Vincent to pick out McMenemy just past the 20 minute mark. His half-volley was travelling but it took a good block to prevent his effort from causing issues for the Eastwood ‘keeper.

The Whites took the lead just past the half hour mark through a perfect Jaime Ture header. Tris Drummond ran the ball to the byline and stood up a beauty of a cross for Ture to nod into the bottom corner.

In the 40th minute, Vincent found space on the edge of the area and looked to play in Scott Matthews. His pass meant Matthews had to stretch for the ball and the danger passed.

Vincent was again involved as he cut inside from the left flank, and looked to test Sam Wilson with a shot that was instead dragged into the side netting.

Lincoln looked to add to their lead as the second-half begun, and a Matthews free-kick found Ture. But, his header was cleared six-yards from goal.

A minute later, Vincent beat his man and fired over from 12 yards, missing a massive chance to double the advantage.

The pressure continued and good hold up play from McMenemy allowed Okewoye to shoot goalwards. His effort was blocked before Vincent curled an shot wide.

United doubled their lead in the 71st minute, as Ture made it a brace of headers. Vincent found him free at the back post and once more the Lincoln star headed into the back of the net.

Soon, Eastwood pulled a goal back, as Tyler Blake finished from close range after a short corner was not dealt with in the Lincoln box.

Into the closing changes of the game, Eastwood fizzed a ball across the six-yard box, that Wright did well to get to first and clear away.

Down the other end, both Jack Varley and Vincent missed chances to secure all three points for the Whites.

Then, Finley Commons equalised for Eastwood in the 95th minute, as his strike found the top left corner.

It meant the game ended level and the title race continued to remain as tight as possible with just two fixtures remaining in the season.

The Whites host Heanor Town next Saturday, with Eastwood travelling to Gresley Rovers.
