Lincoln United maintained their two-point lead over Eastwood at the top of the table after coming from behind to beat Ashby Ivanhoe 2-1.

On eight minutes, a promising opening chance of the game fell for the Whites. An inviting cross from Jack Varley was sent towards, Jaime Ture but he could not direct the header goalwards.

Elsewhere around the grounds, Heanor Town took the lead in opening exchanges against joint-second side Bourne Town.

Seven minutes later, Ashby Ivanhoe exchanged the ball down the right-hand side, before slipping it through for Chris Acott whose shot back across goal squirmed under the feet of Jack Steggles, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

On 23 minutes, Jack McMenemy, after a deep floated ball from Sean Wright, was only able to direct his header straight at Knights goalkeeper Bradley Catlow.

A few minutes later, United’s Henry Moore had a header agonisingly cleared off the goal line.

Then, on 36 minutes, Scott Matthews found Varley, who took a perfect touch into his stride and slotted it home coolly to draw the game level, despite Catlow getting a touch to the ball.

Just before the break, The Whites nearly completed the first-half turnaround with a header which sent wide from a good position by Ture, after a lofted in ball from Evan Payne.

However just before the hour mark, Ture did get his goal. Payne’s throw on was brilliantly flicked on into the path of Ture, who lashed a powerful volley into the back of the net.

Six minutes later, Ashby Ivanhoe had the ball in the back of the United net after heading in from a corner kick, but the referee was quick to disallow the goal for a foul on Steggles.

As the game began to drift away from the visitors, the Whites nearly extended their advantage when Ture sent a powerful right-footed shot wide of Catlow’s left-hand post and Varley had with an audacious volley from long range which spun over the crossbar.

The result sees Lincoln United remain top of the United Counties Football League Premier Division North table, with a two-point advantage over Eastwood.

Meanwhile, Bourne Town’s loss at Heanor Town means the Whites have opened a five-point gap to The Wakes, who they face in the Lincolnshire County Cup final on Wednesday.

Lincoln United travel to second placed Eastwood in weeks’ time for a major game in the title race.
