Gainsborough Trinity 2-3 Prescot Cables:

Russ Wilcox said his Gainsborough Trinity side felt “robbed” in defeat to Prescot Cables, as he described anger at the performance of referee Neil Howlett.

Bailey Conway was set off midway through the second-half for Trinity, before two penalty decisions went against them and captain Dylan Cogill was later red carded after the final whistle.

Speaking to The Linc sports editor Jamie Johnson, Wilcox said: “It was absolutely baffling today. I am so angry, so annoyed, because the lads put everything in. We get a fantastic goal to start, a great ball in from Fraser [Preston] and Charlie [Hickingbottom] is on the end of it.”

The Gainsborough boss labelled Conway’s red card as a “stupid, crazy decision”, before going on to credit his side’s character to fight back through Lewis Butroid to gain the lead.

He called on referee Howlett to look at his own performance after Prescot Cables came away with a 3-2 win at the end of the afternoon.
