The stage is set for Friday’s Lincolnshire County Cup Final where Lincoln United Women face Lincoln City Women at the Jakemans Community Stadium in Boston.

Both sides head into the final after playing their closing league games at the weekend, with United looking to win a third consecutive County Cup.

A tough campaign has seen Charlotte Dinsdale’s young City side relegated from the Women’s National League Midlands without a win all season.

Lincoln United, under the guise of manager Lee Mitchell, finished their season 16 points clear of danger in their debut campaign at the level.

The Imps confirmed their place in this year’s final after a convincing 3-1 win at Grimsby Borough Ladies in the semi-final earlier this year.

The Whites too, will be looking to end their season with silverware after an impressive 2-0 win at home over Gainsborough Trinity in the semi-final. They have won both of the league meetings between the two sides this term.

United manager Lee Mitchell spoke to The Linc after his side’s final league game of the season, as they turned their attention to the floodlit final.

He said: “We’ve addressed some of the problems from the game at Boldmere and we didn’t see one of those problems today; I think we did a great job of nullifying shots from that 25-yard mark.

“I think if we bring the physicality and that intensity we showed today, with some of the lovely football we played, we’ll be in good shape.”

When asked about the players’ commitment throughout the season, which has seen three managers lead the club, Mitchell said “They’re fantastic; they learn and put it in when training. They are constantly developing and that is all we ask for.

“I can’t speak highly enough of them; we just want to finish on a high on Friday and that’s all the focus is about really.

“We can compete with any team in this league so moving forward, I think the girls have the belief and the work ethic to go with it too.”
