Jovon Makama hailed a great end to pre-season for Lincoln City, following their 4-2 win over Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

Makama scored two goals in the first three minutes of the game at the LNER Stadium, the first deflecting off his face following Ben House’s header and his second an impressive strike that found the top corner from 30 yards out.

Goals elsewhere from Ryley Towler and Jack Moylan secured victory for the Imps, despite goals by Karlan Grant and Devante Cole for the Baggies.

Makama said: “The lads did well today. From minute one we went at it and the scoreline shows the performance we put out.”

Makama’s first goal came from a corner whipped in by Reeco Hackett. Scott Fry’s departure, who Michael Skubala praised last season for his work on set-pieces, has not hindered City in that area according to Makama.

“As a team we have always been good at set pieces. We have big players like Sonny (Bradley), myself, ‘Jacko’ (Adam Jackson).

“We all have individual jobs and we all know what we’re good at. Putting it all together, we’re a real threat,” Makama told The Linc.

Elaborating on the signing of Bradley this summer, Makama said: “(Sonny) is a very experienced player. He’s been a great addition to the team, he’s settled in well, and he’s a player that younger players can learn a lot from.”

Michael Skubala’s side start their 2025/26 League One campaign at home against Reading on Saturday, August 2. Makama and his teammates are eager to start the season with a win.

“We are all excited for it (the opening game against Reading) and we’re all ready to go.”
