Michael Skubala’s Lincoln City beat West Bromwich Albion 4-2 in his team’s last pre-season outing in-front of the Imps supporters.

The discourse amongst the fanbase this week centred around who was filling in the left-back position after Sean Roughan’s departure to League One rivals Huddersfield Town earlier in the summer transfer window.

When asked about the vacant position that both new signing Ryley Towler and the newly crowned captain Tendayi Darikwa have filled in for, Skubala said: “Those two can cover that fine, I know we need that out-and-out left back, but there is no problem.

“We saw Ryley Towler and we have seen Tendayi (Darikwa) do it before. We are more than competent, its just about adding one to the group.”

Both Erik Ring and Lewis Montsma have been left out for the majority of pre-season action with respective injuries. Skubala gave an update on the pair’s condition heading into the new season when he said: “Erik Ring is close, really close. He should be coming back into training next week, might be a little too early for Reading. We have got a bit more assessment to do on Lewis to see how long that will be, so we aren’t too sure on that.”

This summer, virtually all first team players made the trip to the Algarve in Portugal for a week of training. However, one of the names who didn’t fly out with the team was Oisin Gallagher.

The Irish 20-year-old still isn’t fit after his injury whilst playing out on loan at fellow Lincolnshire side Boston United last season. Skubala said: “He’s got a long-term injury, that’s why you’ve not seen him, he’s been in for quite a bit. He’s in a boot still and he’s not going to be available for quite a few months.”
