Lincoln City progressed to the second round of the Carabao Cup last night, beating League Two side Harrogate Town 3-1 at the Exercise Stadium.

The Imps ensured their names would be in the draw for the second round after a convincing display which saw them breeze past opponents Harrogate.

Goals from Jack Moylan, Freddie Draper and Rob Street sealed the tie to help Lincoln enact their revenge on the side that dumped them out of the competition last season.

Michael Skubala’s side will be delighted with the win following a mixed start to their SkyBet League One campaign and will hope to build momentum from the solid performance.

LincSport reporter Josh Birkin spoke to Draper post-match after the striker netted his first goal of the season.

After playing a full 90 minutes and opening his account for the new campaign, the striker said: “Yeah massive really, it’s really good to get your first goal of the season and hopefully there’s many more to come.

“(There was a) lapse in concentration at the end that I’ll lose sleep over, but it’s a learning curve.”

When Draper was asked how he found playing in a deeper role then usual, he said: “When I was younger I played in that number ten role and then I got a bit bigger so they moved me up top.

“I know I can play there, it’s just having that sharpness, finding that space and linking up with players, (doing) nothing silly on the ball and being horrible to play against.”

On the circumstances of the goal, the 21-year-old said: “I saw a little break and saw no one really react, I wasn’t sure if I was offside or not but you’ve got to play to the whistle and I put it in the back of the net.

“Luckily it counted so I was relieved and happy to get my first goal.”

Lincoln City will be hoping Draper keeps his shooting boots on as they face Plymouth Argyle this weekend at the LNER Stadium.
