Lincoln City Preview

Lincoln City prepare for their second game of the new SkyBet League One campaign as they look to build on Saturday’s 2-0 win over Reading.

The Opponents: AFC Wimbledon

The Imps make the visit to the Cherry Red Records Stadium as they face a Wimbledon team who were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Luton Town on matchday one.

The Dons placed 5th last season in League Two, qualifying for the play-offs where they edged past Notts County in the semi-finals and beat Walsall in the final by a single goal at Wembley.

It’s been a busy summer transfer window for Wimbledon who’ve brought in eight new players including former Lincoln midfielder Alistair Smith and Sheffield United U21 forward Antwoine Hackford, whilst allowing nine players to leave on a free transfer.

Matty Stevens will be one to watch for Lincoln with the forward scoring 17 goals in League Two last term for Johnnie Jackson’s men.

Team News:

Lincoln City will be without forward Jovon Makama after he completed a permanent switch to Norwich City earlier this week in a record deal for the Imps.

Michael Skubala has said the club are “working really hard” to bring in some new signings to bolster their squad for the new campaign, although the head coach expects no incomings before facing Wimbledon.

Skubala also confirmed Ben House, Dom Jeffries and Lewis Montsma would be absent for the weekend’s game.

Head to Head:

The two sides have only played against each other on six occasions competitively, the last meeting between the two dating back to 1984.

It’s a completely even record across the six games with Lincoln City winning two, drawing two and losing two against the Dons.

Played for Both:

Alistair Smith joined Wimbledon on a permanent deal after being released from Lincoln City this summer.

The midfielder achieved promotion on loan with the Dons last season, cementing himself as a key member of Jackson’s side after making 45 appearances.

The 26-year-old is more than likely to feature at the weekend after starting against Luton on opening day.

Other notable players who have featured for both teams include Michael Appleton, John Fashanu and Mick Smith.
