Coventry City’s Justin Obikwu joined Lincoln City on loan on deadline day earlier this season.
Yesterday the new man scored just five minutes after replacing James Collins in the 80th minute of the match against former Premier League opposition Luton Town.
A defensive error by the Luton defence lead directly to Justin finding the ball at his feet and placing the ball past goalkeeper Josh Keeley.
After the game, Obikwu was quick to say how much the goal meant to him: “It was a great feeling, something that I’m really proud of.
“Last week I had a chance against Burton that I should have taken and scored from so it was my time to make it right today and I did that.”
Having just recently joined, Obikwu has been unable to play matches and integrate with the other players due to his duty for the Trinidad & Tobago national team.
Obikwu explains: “It has been busy, a really busy couple of weeks and then I was finally able to come back to Lincoln and finally train and coming off the bench is my way of gelling with the team.”
Obikwu also outlined why he felt Lincoln was the perfect option for him. He credited the fans a lot, saying: “Obviously the fans are great here.
“I researched the fans and compared to the other clubs that were involved and having a manager that was really keen on me coming here and what they displayed to me in the meeting when I came here was what I wanted”
Potentially, Obikwu’s name could be listed amongst the 11 that will be selected for Lincoln’s next game as they host Premier League giants Chelsea in the EFL Carabao Cup.
Obikwu expressed his excitement in the possibility of being involved in such a match: “It is very exciting, Chelsea is a big name, big club.
“As long as I’m involved, I’ll be grateful to god for that. We will see what happens on Tuesday.”
I remember watching us beat Tottenham many years ago now when Hoddle Waddle and I think Clemence in goal and I think we won 2 1 in a league cup tie so I have seen many great results for us in the past 67 years so another one is not out of the question is it we will have a few chances and hope we can put away like we did against Liverpool and frightened West Ham just a couple of years ago so best of luck and I’m one of the sell out crowd for it.
