Lincoln City have announced the loan signing of midfielder Finley Barbrook from Championship side Ipswich Town.

The midfielder joins the Imps on a season-long loan having had previous spells in the National League South with Chelmsford City and more recently the National League with Sutton United.

He made a combined 75 appearances across those two loan spells before returning to Ipswich this season where he started in the Tractor Boys’ first round Carabao Cup defeat to Bromley.

The central midfielder becomes the Imps sixth signing of the summer and the first on deadline day. Michael Skubala was keen to add a new midfielder to his squad after Ethan Hamilton departed for Scottish Premier League side Dundee FC.

However, the head coach also wanted to ensure that any new additions wouldn’t stifle the development of Ukrainian under-21 international Ivan Varfolomeyev.

On the new signing Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala said: “We really like Fin’s attributes, he has the ability to play as a six or an eight and we see him adding competition in those positions.

“We were really impressed with Fin when we met him during this process, so we know that he possesses the mentality to do well for us and cope with the demands of League One.”

Following on from that the clubs director of football Jez George said: “Fin is a player that we’ve known about since a loan at Chelmsford City.

“He did really well at Sutton United last season and has continued his progress with Ipswich this season.”

He then spoke about the sale of Ethan Hamilton and said: “We sanctioned the sale of Ethan Hamilton with this deal in mind and we are grateful to Ipswich for trusting us in the next stage of Fin’s development.”
