Lincoln United got themselves out of the drop zone as they secured their first win in the Northern Premier League East Division since August 12.

The Whites secured a huge 1-0 win over Blyth Town yesterday, despite going down to ten men right at the end of the second half.

Elliot Dye was the difference maker in the 26th minute, smashing his penalty into the corner past goalkeeper Neil De Jesus after Connor Brown was pulled down in the box.

Scott Hellewell’s side created a handful of chances and looked on top until disaster struck right at the end of the first half.

Jaime Ture was shown a second yellow card for a high boot challenge in the middle of the park and the hosts were reduced to ten men.

But heroic defending by the ten men of Lincoln United in the second half won them all three points with captain Stef Galinski being named as Man of the Match for his excellent leadership and defensive contributions.

The Linc sports reporter Declan Dempsey spoke to Lincoln United’s assistant manager Paul Grimes after the game. He said: “The lads dug in, defended really well.

“It’s great to have a clean sheet as well, that’s been a long time coming. So yeah, really pleased with the performance.”
