Michael Skubala’s Lincoln City began their Vertu Trophy campaign with a 3-0 victory over League Two side Notts County last night as the head coach praised his sides professionalism.

An early seventh minute header from Sonny Bradley sent the Imps in 1-0 up at the break, before second half goals from Ben House and James Collins put the game to bed.

After the win, Skubala said: “I am really pleased with the performance, it was a professional job.

“The two debutants put in good individual performances in and in the end, it was a comfortable win.”

Those two debutants, Adam Reach and Fin Barbrook, were named in the starting eleven for the Imps despite only being signed in the late hours of deadline day.

Skubala didn’t shy away from praising the two men when he said: “I thought both of them did really well.

“Adam Reach, you saw his quality it was on display for everyone to see and Fin, had great energy in there and he looks to get on the ball and play. They have only had the one session with us, and we threw them in, so we are really happy.”

When questioned on how a player is able to quickly put a performance together with such little time to prepare, Skubala said: “It is different for each player, we have to be mindful of that.

“Fin has played a lot more minutes already this season than Adam, but we gave them a tactical plan, and we trust that they can take on the information.”

The imps have scored 15 goals in nine games throughout all competitions this season already.

Attacking football seems to be on the mind of the Imps head coach with plenty of attacking threat now in the squad.

Skubala said: “We want to have a threat going forward and I thought we have seen that tonight, we managed to open them up and we managed to get in behind them. We have lots of choice.”
