Lincoln City centre-back Adam Jackson believed his side were the better team on Saturday despite falling to a late 1-0 defeat against Exeter City at the LNER Stadium.
The Imps were unbeaten in eight league games before facing Exeter on Saturday but a 94th minute goal from substitute Kevin McDonald put an end to that impressive streak.
On the narrow loss, Adam Jackson said: “I thought we played well to be honest, I thought we were the much better team.
“We dominated a lot of the game, they had a couple of minute spells either side of the half but we just have to put (our chances) away.”
The 31-year-old defender didn’t think his side made a whole lot of mistakes, he said: “I don’t think we did an awful lot wrong to be honest.
“Obviously the goal looked sloppy, I could maybe do a better header away, we could maybe get out to the ball quicker to block the shot but before that I think we’ve just got to try and put the game to bed a bit earlier.”
“Its one we learn from and it hopefully won’t happen again.”
Michael Skubala’s side had kept back-to-back clean sheets before Saturday’s game, on losing that streak Jackson said: “Yeah personally that’s what our job is isn’t it.
“To be fair the whole team does an amazing job for us to help with the clean sheets but obviously as a back four that’s our bread and butter so I think we’ve got to be really disappointed with that one, especially so late on and the type of goal it was.”
Lincoln were scheduled to play Bradford City this weekend but the game was postponed due to reported international call-ups for Ivan Varfolomeev, Dexter Lembikisa and Justin Obikwu.
On what work needs to be done before their clash with Stevenage on Saturday, October 18, Jackson said: “I actually don’t think a lot needs to change.
“I just think we need to keep the standards where we are and I think if we play like that again, I don’t think we will have any issue in the next game.
“We just need to be more ruthless in both boxes.”
