Lindum Men’s 1st team secured their first win of the season this week after defeating Newcastle University 7-1 on Sunday.
After their defeat to Neston 1s last week, Lindum came into their game this week with a renewed mindset and a determination to make a comeback.
The first half
Lindum had a flying start to the game with a goal in the 6th minute from Sam Dixon.
Both teams showed determination to score, with multiple short corners and chances on goal being denied for both sides throughout the first half.
Right up until the whistle signalling the end of the second quarter, Lindum’s high standard of play did not falter, meaning they lead 1-0 at half time.

A soaring second half
Lindum were eager to keep their lead against the Newcastle-based side, and that they did.
Captain Louie Sadler scored a goal just two minutes into the third quarter, meaning the yellow submarines doubled their lead to make it 2-0.
Newcastle tried to respond, scoring a goal in the 41st minute to make it 2-1, but Lindum didn’t let it stay that way for long.
In the last minute of the third quarter, Ben Read slapped the ball past Newcastle’s goalkeeper Rory Jones to make it 3-1, giving the team the boost they needed as they came into the final quarter of the game.
The team did not make it easy for Newcastle to get through them, scoring an impressive 4 goals in the last quarter and keeping their defence tight.
Despite both teams playing well, the Yellow Submarines managed to keep their edge throughout the game. Following the tough loss last week, the team seems to be carrying a renewed sense of energy to keep them fighting at the top of the table.
The Reaction
Lindum’s Vice Captain Ross Booth praised the team’s performance. He said: “It was great. From quarter one we said we needed to play hard which we did.
Even though we only picked up one goal at the start, we knew that if we maintained that they would not be able to stay with us.
Ultimately, in the final quarter we were really clinical with our play and managed to run away with it.
Though they had a lot of intensity, our experience allowed us to move it round them today without getting dragged into a game that got to end to end.”
The Yellow Submarines play Leeds next week in their first away match of the season. Saturday 11th 7pm KO.
