Frankie Okoronkwo was quick to praise Lincoln City’s performance in their 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers, a result which boosted them up to second in SkyBet League One.

The on-loan Everton man bagged the opening goal of the game at the half hour stage to help the Imps overcome a side who are now winless in their last nine league outings.

City now have seen 11 different goalscorers in the league already this season, showing the side’s fantastic squad depth and ability to find the net and Okoronkwo believes this ability “comes out in training.”

He said: “It shows that if you do the right repetitions throughout the week, then on a game day it is just muscle memory.”

Saturday was City’s first game at the LNER Stadium for 28 days, the last coming all the way back in mid-October against Stevenage, and Okoronkwo was glad to be back at home.

He said: “It was refreshing to be back home, when you’ve got the fans chanting from minute one up until 90, I feel like they were the 12th man and really helped us today.”

Rovers’ poor form as of late may have hinted that City could’ve tried to play a different style to adapt to this, however Okoronkwo begged to differ.

“I feel like you’ve got to prepare the same way regardless of who you’re playing.

“I know Doncaster were winless in eight before this, but prepare right and whoever is on that field, the same principles apply.”

After 16 league matches, the Imps sit in second with 28 points, narrowly missing out on top spot on just goals scored and Okoronkwo praised their ability to maintain their high position.

“Being in and around it all season gives us a really good chance given the quality of the squad, the staff, I feel like we can really do something this season.”
