Lincoln United striker Kane Hutchinson-Wilkes returned to the side last week and scored on his second debut for the club as they lost out 2-1 to Ashington AFC on Saturday.

The Whites were forced to a lot of defending in a first half that was dominated by the visitors however they weren’t undone until just short of the hour mark when Liam Henderson opened the scoring.

It was Hutchinson-Wilkes that drove Dave Frecklington’s side towards an equaliser as he flashed an effort from 30 yards out narrowly wide of the post.

He then found the debut goal that he so desperately wanted with just over 20 minutes to go as he raced through on goal and headed the ball beyond the onrushing goalkeeper.

On that goal he said: “I didn’t really expect it, it’s come over the top and I’ve gone to head it the keeper probably should have saved it, but we take them.”

However, Lincoln United were undone again with 10 minutes left as Heath Richardson couldn’t quite gather a cross on the slippery surface and the ball fell to Henderson to get his second of the game from two yards out.

That is how things finished and the striker said: “I thought we battled really well, it’s disappointing because I thought we were probably the better team for the majority of the game.

“We were just unlucky more than anything but that’s football.”

The Whites fell to within just one point of the relegation zone with that defeat before they now travel to play-off hopefuls North Ferriby next Saturday.
