Lincoln United grabbed an all-important three-points in a six-goal thriller against Consett AFC which included a goal of the month contender.

A dominant first half:

Lincoln United started the game very successfully with a goal inside two minutes courtesy of Connor Brown as the Whites took control early on.

Consett had their first attempt on goal thanks to the head of Lewis Leech who put his effort over the bar, not forming much of a challenge for United shot stopper Heath Richardson.

The long throw nearly struck again for United as the ball fell on the head of Henry Moore who forced a saved from Consett keeper Harry Moss despite a relatively tame effort.

New signing Dan Vanderpuye, who signed on loan from Lincoln City only a few days ago, put a ball through to Brown who made the run for it, but he could only find Moss with his attempt.

Dan Vanderpuye started the season on loan at fellow Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity.

United doubled their lead with around 15 minutes of the half remaining as they received a penalty following a Consett handball which was converted by United skipper, Elliot Dye.

Five minutes later, Consett had a penalty of their own following a foul in the box which Calvin Smith converted, despite Richardson guessing the right way.

In the dying moments of the half, Charlie Carlisle caught Moss off his line with a strike from 30-yards out, which put the hosts two goals to up at the break.

United see the game out comfortably:

A long throw from Max Baker nearly ended up in the goal thanks to it bouncing around and nearly added another goal to United’s tally.

Matty Todd had a chance for Consett as he ran down the wing but was deemed offside by the linesman.

Baker again looked to be dangerous and create a chance for the Whites, but his cross from the left was too high and powerful, going over everyone.

The hosts had a corner from the right side which forced keeper Moss to save on his goal line, as he stretched for the ball.

The Whites got a fourth of the afternoon, and Brown got his brace after he rounded the keeper leaving both the final defender, and Moss on the deck.

Richardson was once again called into action for the Whites as a dangerous close-range shot forced him to use his feet, to preserve their three-goal lead.

However, the visitors did eventually beat Richardson, with just over five minutes to go at his near post to double the visitors goal tally and close up the deficit.

In added time, tempers began to flare up as both Henry Moore, and Marc Costello were both shown red cards.

Full-Time: Lincoln United 4-2 Consett AFC

This result takes the Whites outside of the relegation zone after a run of six games without victory.

Scott Hellewell’s side now sit two points clear of Ashington AFC in 19th place before they face up to Newton Aycliffe next Saturday.
