Sonny Bradley was awarded Player of the Match on a very misty afternoon against Cardiff City after the Lincoln City centre-back scored the decisive goal in an impressive 2-1 win over the league leaders.
The win was enough to not only prevent the Bluebirds from going seven points clear at the top of League One, but allowed the Imps to climb into second place just three points behind.
City took all three points after an impressive performance in both attack and defence. When asked about the significance of his winner to his team, Bradley said: “It’s the most important goal I’ve scored so far this season, it means everything.”
The quality of the opposition wasn’t lost on Bradley, as he spoke on their ability he said: “They’re a really good team who know how to win games.”
He later added: “I think that they will go and get promoted.” But it was eventually Skubala’s men who came out on top.
Lincoln City’s form has been sensational in recent weeks, with only one loss in the league at home all season. Bradley was visibly delighted and spoke on the quality of opposition that the Imps have overcome.
In regards to the Chelsea game earlier in the season, Bradley said: “We put them under real pressure.” as he reflected on the amazing form that Lincoln have picked up in the build up to Christmas.
As the Imps’ incredible season continues, it’s clear that the team relies heavily on the support of the home fans. The LNER Stadium has become something of a fortress and that hasn’t gone unnoticed amongst the players.
The Player of the Match spoke on the fans who attend the games, telling us how: “They’ve played their part [today] and they have been all season.” It became increasingly clear just how important the pressure on the opposition that the home crowd builds is.
Bradley’s 67th minute winner has put the Imps in a very strong position as Skubala’s men hope to keep up their very strong start to the season. Promotion remains the goal, but it isn’t lost on Lincoln City just how important it is that the consistency in their performances stays until the end of the season.
