Billy Heath was pleased with how his side asserted their physicality over a youthful Lincoln City side as Lincoln United came out 2-1 winners in the Senior County Cup quarter final.

Following a quiet first half, Connor Brown opened the scoring seconds after he had an attempt clawed off the line.

Gbolahan Okewoye would then equalise spectacularly from 30-yards before Elliot Dye sealed the Whites progression from the spot with three minutes remaining.

On the game as whole, Billy Heath said: “I think we deserved the win, we had more chances and even before we scored the goal, we’d had two chances that we should have scored from.

“On balance we had more opportunities than them but thanks to Lincoln for coming, I thought their players equipped themselves well.

“They were quite tough and I thought they handled themselves really well in the way they competed because they gave us as good as they got.”

On the way the young side competed with the physicality of the game, Heath said: “It’s going to be physical.

“My teams are always physical and they always compete; there’s nothing wrong with being physical because football is about competing.

“Our game can’t go away from that because you have to stand up and win your individual battles and that’s what we did tonight.”

The former Lincoln United defender made five changes coming into this game which then allowed Max Baker to move up to the left-wing position.

Heath said: “I thought he is well equipped to that position because he’s very quick, he’s got a lovely left foot and we signed Lewis Cunningham.

“Lewis is a great left-back at this level and I know him very well, that isn’t to say Max won’t play left-back but I wanted to see Max further forward and he was magnificent tonight.”
