Jack Moylan was happy with Lincoln City’s 3-1 victory over Barnsley and recognised they need to back it up over the festive period with more wins.

Two goals from Reeco Hackett, plus a smart lob over the goalkeeper by Tom Bayliss, secured the three points for the Imps – which elevated them into third place in the Sky Bet League One table.

Moylan said: “Brilliant. I think the team, the club and the city really needed it. We’ve had a tough December so far, so tonight is really positive for us.”

Moylan praised Hackett’s contribution against the Tykes, who surpassed his personal goal tally for last season with his brace, and also spoke of his enjoyment playing in a side that has goal threats from all areas of the pitch.

“You see how good he (Hackett) is, if he cuts in on that left foot, I think he has a chance of scoring every time.

“As you can see tonight, we can score every kind of goal, ugly ones from set pieces, ones where we crack them open, we’re a really good team in every aspect.

“As a creative player, when I’ve got lads around me who can score goals from everywhere, it’s good for me,” Moylan told The Linc.

The Irishman was at the heart of everything the Imps created in the first half, although a goal illuded him on the night, Moylan felt he was playing with freedom in his preferred position.

“Yeah, it was good. I’m back playing in the 10, last week I played a bit deeper, and that’s my favourite position.

“I want to be on the ball all the time, even if I lose it or I miss I want the ball back for the next chance we get.”

Looking ahead to the festive period, Moylan remains focused on adding more points to the Imps’ impressive total so far.

He said: “It’s great tonight, but we have to wake up tomorrow and forget about it. We need to have a narrow-mindedness and know that we need to go back out on Saturday and win again because tonight means nothing if we go and lose at Blackpool.”
