Lincoln City have announced the signing of left-back Joshua Honohan from a UEFA Europa Conference League side for an undisclosed fee.

Honohan joins from current Irish Premier Division table toppers Shamrock Rovers having made 32 appearances in the League of Ireland Premier Division this season, scoring six and assisting five.

The Irishman becomes the Imps’ third left-back addition of the season after Ryley Towler joined from Championship side Portsmouth and Adam Reach was signed on a free in the summer

Despite those signings it has seemed as though the Imps are light in both full-back positions with captain Tendayi Darikwa looking like the best backup option on which left obvious gaps elsewhere.

In Honohan Michael Skubala now has an energetic and attacking full back that can provide a dynamism that Towler can’t consistently bring to the side.

The 24-year-old has made a combined 85 appearances in two years for Shamrock Rovers after he joined from Cork City where he made a further 64 appearances over four seasons.

The full-back brings plenty of experience despite his age having made eight appearances in last season’s Europa Conference League and also made a further two Conference League appearances this season.

Honohan was also called up to the Republic of Ireland’s most recent world cup qualifying squad where they clinched themselves a spot in the play-offs.

Despite picking up a muscle injury at the start of December, he is expected to come straight into Skubala’s side in January.
