Lincoln City played out a tense 1-1 draw with fellow promotion-chasing Huddersfield Town, a result that keeps the Imps in second, three points behind SkyBet League One leaders Cardiff City.
After a dominant first half from the home side, it was the visitors who snatched the lead through Terriers’ top scorer Leo Castledine, who could not have had an easier task of heading in from two-yards out.
The breakthrough seemed to ignite a much-needed spark in the game; it wasn’t long before City piled on the pressure again and got their reward.
They equalised through full-back Adam Reach, who has now netted in back-to-back matchdays for the first time since 2018.
The draw keeps City in second, and thanks to Cardiff’s draw at Wycombe, still three points off them. As for Huddersfield, they also remain in fifth thanks to Bolton and Stevenage also playing out 1-1 draws respectively.
Imps’ defender Ryley Towler described the draw as a missed opportunity, especially considering their first half performance.
“The boys were so, so good first half and I think on another day we come in maybe two, three up.”
“But Huddersfield are a good side so credit to them, but the boys played really, really well today.”
Whilst it is just a draw, City’s home record remains fantastic, with just the one league defeat to their name all season, a last-minute 1-0 loss to Exeter City in early October.
Towler praised the fans for their ongoing support, saying: “The fans are a massive part to our game, we know when we go out there, they’re going to be right behind us.”
“You see teams come here and not play as well, they have a massive part to play in that.”
The Imps’ fight for the automatic promotion spots is in full swing, with them holding a six-point gap on fourth placed Stockport County, although they have played one less game than City.
Towler is confident of City’s hopes come the end of the season, saying: “I know we’re going to keep winning at home, if we keep picking up good points away, I think we’ll be right up there.”
City’s focus shifts very quickly to Sunday afternoon, when the most in-form team in the league come to town in Peterborough United, in what is set to be a thrilling contest.
Preparations for Sunday are all focused on themselves hints Towler, saying: “I think we’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing, we don’t really need to focus on them.”
“Obviously give them respect but we know we have a more capable team to win the game and if we stick to the game plan, I think we’ll win the game.”
