Lincoln City continued their unbelievable record at home this season as they scored five goals against a visiting Peterborough United side for the second year in a row.

It was a strong performance from the whole squad, but Imps captain Tendayi Darikwa led his team to joint first in SkyBet League One as the right wing-back secured a brace for himself and provided an assist for Reeco Hackett.

The skipper spoke on the mental strength that his team showed after suffering an early blow to go 1-0 down.

Darikwa said: “It’s obviously important to show character and resilience to come back in these games and we did that today so I’m thankful to get the three points.”

It was clear that Michael Skubala and his team had done their research in the build up to the match, as Darikwa commented: “We knew the areas we could hurt them,” when speaking about the efficiency of the Imps’ counter attacking approach.

Much of the credit has to be given to the Lincoln City head-coach, as the hosts used their recent switch to a back three to exploit the space available to Adam Reach and Tendayi Darikwa down both sides.

Each wingback was able to find the net, and Darikwa’s link up play with Reeco Hackett out wide produced three of the five goals scored by the home side, who are now regarded by many as being serious contenders for automatic promotion this season.

Another three points have been secured for Lincoln City, who will play away on January 17 against Luton Town, who continue their hunt for those vital playoff positions.
