Connor Brown scored the only goal of the game to secure a 1-0 win for Lincoln United against Bishop Auckland, a result that sent the Whites four points clear of the bottom four.

The Whites went into the game sat 15th in the Northern Premier League East Division, with three points separating them from the bottom four.

Their opponents, Bishop Auckland, went into the game 17th in the league and just one point behind United.

Interim manager Dave Frecklington remained at the wheel for the game, naming an unchanged 11 from the side that beat Heaton Stannington on Tuesday night.

Brown again ole ole

Lincoln United got off to a roaring start as they scored just three minutes into the game through Connor Brown. The striker was played clean through and applied a tidy finish into the bottom left corner to beat Jack Norton.

Josh Robertson nearly got the visitors back on level terms seven minutes later as the full back smacked a whipped ball against the post directly from a corner, leaving Heath Richardson stunned.

Bishop Auckland had another chance to equalise 23 minutes into the game, Vinnie Steels crossed in a ball with pin-point accuracy to find Mikey Roberts in the middle, but the forward directed his header the wrong side of the far post.

Yet again the visitors should’ve made it 1-1 in the 27th minute, with heroics from Sam Swinn on the line being the only reason United didn’t concede.

Right before half-time the Whites had a chance to double their advantage, with Alan Power sending a free-kick into the box that was met by Swinn but his header flew inches wide.

Seeing out the win

It was a quiet start to the second half, with Elliot Dye getting a shot away on the hour mark. The midfielder exchanged a quick one-two with Harvey Cribb before curling an effort goalwards that was saved by Norton.

And within two minutes the visitors would have a golden opportunity to go level through Robbie Spence, forcing an excellent save from Richardson who pushed the strikers volley over the bar.

Max Baker should have put the game to bed with two minutes left of normal time, opting to shoot when played clean through rather than passing to Cribb who was alongside him.

His effort was well kept out by Norton, who denied Baker with his feet – putting the ball out for a corner.

A quiet second half came to an end after three minutes of added time, keeping United 15th in the league but moving them four points clear of the bottom four ahead of their next game against Bridlington Town next Saturday.
