Lincolnshire matchdays could take on a new look after the FA have commissioned a Champions League style anthem for both the men’s and women’s competitions.

Currently the FA have said the anthem will be made by a British composer and played before every game in the tournament.

Although, there is one exception to that as the hymn, ‘Abide With Me,’ will still be played before the final.

Therefore, we also expect this to impact both Gainsborough Trinity’s and Lincoln United’s exploits in the Qualifying Rounds.

However, a year in which the anthem will be introduced to the competition is yet to be announced.

Once the Anthem is produced it will also be given to the tournaments broadcaster’s, BBC and TNT sport, to be used in their television coverage. While a different anthem will be given to Channel 4 for their coverage of the Women’s competition.

This season, Lincoln United were eliminated in the Preliminary Round of the competition following a replay against Skegness Town that they lost 2-1.

To get to that point, the side bravely fought back from a goal down despite being reduced to ten men at the MKM Stadium.

Before that, the side found a 3-0 victory at home to Northampton O.N. Chennecks in the Extra-Preliminary Round.

Gainsborough Trinity and Lincoln City on the other hand were both eliminated in the First Round Proper of the competition after taking their games to Extra-Time.

The Imps were eventually eliminated on penalties away to SkyBet League Two side Salford City, as Kelly N’Mai found an injury time equaliser for the hosts.

Michael Skubala’s side then went on to miss two out of their four penalties before Daniel Udoh turned the decisive spot kick home.

However, the Holy Blues once again represented themselves spectacularly in this year’s competition as they progressed through four qualifying rounds before being eliminated by Football League side Accrington Stanley.

To get to that point they got the better of fellow Northern Premier League Premier Division sides Rushall Olympic and Dunston UTS, defeating those sides by a scoreline of 2-1.

Before that they also got the better of NPL Midlands Division side Corby Town in the First Qualifying Round and also defeated National League side Hartlepool United following a 3-0 win in a replay.

Music introduced by the Premier League in the 2021/22 season has received some backlash but it is believed that supporters groups may be consulted with sample music before a final version is released.
