A toweringly tall North East Lincolnshire teen has been crowned heavyweight boxing champion.
Osasenaga Erhunmwunsee, 16, stands at 6 feet, 7 inches tall and has been crowned champion at the prestigious New Era BOXCUP in Braintree, Essex.
He claimed gold after a “dominant performance” at the four-day international amateur boxing tournament, which attracts competitors from across the UK and Europe.
Osasenaga, from Grimsby, was matched against experienced Italian opponent Rizzo Damiano of ASD Abis Boxing in the final, and despite having only been boxing for just 18 months, he secured a stoppage victory and the heavyweight title.
Wayne Bloy, Head Coach and Founder of the Fusion Centre, said: “Osas showed composure beyond his years. Using a sharp jab to control the distance, he dictated the contest before stepping in to land heavy body shots.
“His authority in the ring proved decisive, with his opponent withdrawing before the second round, thus securing Osas a stoppage victory and the heavyweight title.”
Two other boxers from the Fusion Centre also competed at the event.
Leighton Kjervold, who was left without contest after his opponent failed to make weigh-in, and Louis Tomlinson, who boxed the “experienced Irish champion” Cole Smith of Beartown ABC in an open final before conceding but still won high praise from the coaches.
Wayne added: “We’re incredibly proud of all three lads, not just for the results, but for the way they conducted themselves throughout the tournament.
“A huge thank you goes to Colan Forman and Harry Munson, who gave up work and family time to take the boys to Essex and support them across four long days. Opportunities like this simply don’t happen without that level of commitment.”
