All EFL fixtures from February 5-8 are set to kick off a minute later than usual to mark the Every Minute Matters campaign.

The campaign was set up by the leagues in collaboration with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to highlight the importance of every minute mattering when performing CPR.

Lincoln City’s away fixture at Plymouth Argyle will now kick-off at 3:01pm on Saturday as part of the campaign, as opposed to the normal start time of 3pm.

Every Minute Matters has been highlighted following the cardiac arrest that Tom Lockyer suffered during a Premier League game between Bournemouth and Luton Town in December 2023.

As February is Heart Month, the campaign believes this is the best time to promote the importance of learning CPR to football fans across the UK.

Currently at Bristol Rovers, Lockyer believes that it is very important that people know CPR and how to help save lives.

Lockyer said: “What happened to me can happen to anyone, anywhere at any time.

“Every year, more than 40,000 people in the UK suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, and most of them never make it home.

“This February, we want everyone to get behind this life-saving initiative, learn the skills and be ready to step in.”

The campaign has already inspired over 400,000 people to learn CPR since the campaign was started by the BHF and Sky Bet in May 2024.

The first year of the partnership between Sky Bet and the BHF led to an incredible £3 million donation from the league sponsors with the same amount set to be raised this year.

Also, the BHF have an award specifically for the second year of the partnership called the ‘Red Boot’.

This is a one-off award for the 2025/26 season and will go to the best striker across all of the three EFL leagues.

For every goal that the player scores, Sky Bet will donate £50,000 to the BHF.

Dr Charmaine Griffiths, Chief Executive of the BHF, said: “From the terraces to the training ground, football unites communities, and this heart month, together with Sky Bet and the EFL, we can save lives.”
