Lincoln United interim manager Dave Frecklington was pleased with an “incredible three points” as his side found a late 1-0 victory against second place Emley AFC.

A 94th minute strike from Haydn Havard was the difference in a game of few clear cut chances in which the Whites dominated possession throughout.

On the game, Frecklington said: “I was looking towards the end of the game to try and keep hold of a point, because they looked a threat when they went direct.

“But we’ve seen the game out and then the substitutions have come on and won us the game, I’m delighted for Haydn, it was a great finish.

“Three wins on the spin and another clean sheet against a team towards the top end of the table and it’s a great way to win a football match.”

Havard came on as an 86th minute substitute and Frecklington spoke on what the goal meant to him: “It’s not all about me and the decisions we make.

“We believe in all of the players we’ve got at the club and some players that started have put that much of a shift in we’ve had to take them off because they’re tired.

“Also we’ve been able to pick a group of players that we know can change a game and we didn’t have that for the first couple of months of the season.”

Owen Vincent was forced off in the first half with an injury and Frecklington said: “He’s got shin splints.

“He’s had a lot of games in a short period of time after being out for a long period of time so now the pitches have gone a bit firmer its been hard on his legs.

The win came on National Non-League day as the Whites broke their attendance record for the season and Frecklington was “Delighted for everyone at the club.

“And to beat someone second in the league and it be a well-deserved victory sends everyone home happy

“We said before the game, the two wins we had coming into it allowed us to play with more freedom today and it was a test for us.

“We weren’t going to change the way that we play but let’s see where we’re at because it’s alright doing it at teams in and around us, but let’s have a go at home.

“Let’s see what we can do and make them worry about us and it goes to show that we can compete against top sides and it gives us a lot of positives to take into the rest of the season.”
