Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala was visibly thrilled at the end of Saturday’s 2-0 win against Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The head-coach gave his views on the impressive performance from his side that saw them clinch top spot in SkyBet League One thanks to goals from Rob Street and Dom Jeffries.

He said: “I’m really proud of the team and how we worked today,” after his side battled for a 2-0 win despite seeing just 22 per cent of the ball all game.

It was a match in which the Imps thrived on the counter attack, with both goals coming in the form of quick breaks in behind the Cardiff back line.

Summing it up perfectly, Skubala said: “When we get the ball, we hurt, we create chances.” That proved once again to be the case as Lincoln scored their 64th and 65th league goals this season, only Cardiff have scored more with 68.

The depth of the Lincoln City squad this season has been vital to their success, with quality players available in their numbers in seemingly every position.

The Imps’ head coach told us: “There’s finishers coming on the pitch and helping the team, so the squad’s in a really good place.

“We’re healthy but now we need to recover and go again.”

This comes as Lincoln travel to Exeter City on Tuesday night to face the one side who have managed to beat them at home this season.

The professional attitude of the team has been seen all season long, and it’s clear that Skubala leads by example. Despite the significance of the result and the fact that it is now his side are now top of the league, City’s head-coach remains grounded and focused on the next game.

It was yet another stroke of genius from the manager as substitute and former Cardiff academy player Dom Jefferies scored the second goal to secure the three points in front of 3,000 roaring away fans.

Skubala said: “I get loads of things right and loads of thing wrong, that’s football. So, when we’re making changes some work, some don’t; today they worked and it’s good to see.”

The Imps now brace themselves for a quick turnaround ahead of Tuesday evening’s game against Exeter City. Overcoming title chasing rivals Cardiff on Saturday was no mean feat, but the pressure of promotion remains on Lincoln City, with each of the 33 remaining available points being vital.

The league title is now more than a possibility for Skubala’s side, and their sights are now firmly set on their remaining fixtures, looking to bring silverware to the LNER Stadium.
