Gainsborough Trinity manager Russ Wilcox was disappointed his side didn’t come away with all three points as they drew 0-0 against the ten men of Warrington Rylands on Non League Day.
The Holy Blues created more then enough to win the game, striking the post twice and forcing countless heroic saves from Luke Pilling.
When asked if he was slightly disappointed with the result, Wilcox said: “No, no disappointment at all, in the performance or in the game, it was a great game with two really good teams- that’s why we’re both at the top right end of the table.
“There were key moments in the game at both ends, we could’ve won it and we could’ve lost it, so yeah it was a cracking 0-0 game.”
Despite both teams offering up an entertaining watch in the second half, the first 45 lacked action – with the only big opportunity coming when Fraser Preston forced a quality goal-line clearance out of George Waring who headed the ball over.
Wilcox revealed what he told his side at the interval, he said: “Just enjoy it a little bit more and be a bit calmer on the ball.
“I think we played a lot more football in the second half, sometimes its easier to play against the wind because we had that pace in behind as well.
“But it was just a really good team performance and I’m gutted that we haven’t got the extra two points.”

Like Pilling for the visitors, Dave Robson was forced to make multiple impressive saves to prevent Rylands from leaving the KAL Group Stadium with all three points.
Trinity’s goalkeeper helped his side reach 15 clean sheets for the season with his performance, Wilcox said: “Yeah he’s been amazing. I think he’s been awarded player of the month twice, man of the match award today.
“You could’ve picked a few today, some really good performances – but there were key moments in the game where we could’ve lost it, especially the save he made where he pushed it onto the post, it was a piece of outstanding goalkeeping.”
With Stockton Town losing their game Gainsborough leaped into the play-off places, sitting fifth place in the Northern Premier League with just five games remaining.
On finishing inside the top four come May, Wilcox said: “Yeah always confident, there’s still 15 points to play for so anything can happen in this next period.
“Next weekends going to be a big one, Easter weekend where we’re playing Friday and Monday so yeah we need to enjoy it and embrace it.”
