Lincoln City will have to undertake a 397-mile round trip to face League One leaders Cardiff City this Saturday in what must be the most anticipated match of the season.
With both sides having one eye on the Championship, the focus now shifts to silverware. The travelling Imps sit just a point off Cardiff’s top spot, meaning there is every reason to assume this game could be vital in the outcome of the SkyBet League One title race.
The Title Race
Cardiff City have been sat at the top of the table for just shy of three months now, with the gap from second place Lincoln slowly shrinking.
The hosts head into this game under a fair amount of pressure, knowing that a loss would be enough to knock them off top spot.

Promotion feels more like a case of “when” rather than “if” for Lincoln City fans, but a trophy would be the perfect end to a dream season.
The mindset in the Lincoln dressing room is clearly a professional one, with players and staff wanting to take it game by game and not let the thoughts of promotion get them too far ahead of themselves.
That sense of professionalism has been vital in Michael Skubala’s team this season and has been on display every time his team has stepped out onto the pitch, both in terms of playing style and all-round composure and mentality.
The Bluebirds
Cardiff City come into this game with just one loss in their last 14 games, a crushing 5-2 loss at the hands of Plymouth Argyle.
Yousef Salech is flying highest for the Bluebirds, with 16 goal contributions (12 goals and four assists) this season. His free-firing performances have helped lead Cardiff to the top of the table so far.
Defending often goes under the radar, but only four goals conceded in the last five games for Cardiff, and just two from Lincoln proves why these two teams are such a force to contend with. Neither side are struggling for goals either, the Imps have bagged 15 in the last five games, and Cardiff 16.

The Imps
Skubala’s men come into this fixture on an incredible run of form. 2025 was the last time Lincoln City tasted defeat, and their recent domination over teams at home is testament to that.
When asked about the discomfort that Jack Moylan appeared to be in against Blackpool, Skubala said: “It’s just a dead leg, we’re hoping he should be fine for Saturday.”
On the subject of Imps striker Freddie Draper, who has missed the last two matches, Michael Skubala remains unsure. He said: “We’ll have to take it week by week, it could be something more serious… it’s a strange one.”
This will be Lincoln City’s first away trip to Cardiff since November 22, 2000, with that match resulting in a 3-2 win for the travelling side.
Overview
It is clearly a massive game for both teams, and both sets of fans are holding their breath ahead of kick-off. It feels as though it is a match that is impossible to call, given the immense form of both sides and the unignorable sense of pressure around the occasion.
