Lincoln United vs Deeping Rangers

Non-League Day is coming up this Saturday which puts the spotlights on those lower league clubs in Lincolnshire and across the UK.

The event normally takes place within the March – April international break where no Premier League or EFL Championship games traditionally take place.

However, Sky Bet League One and Two clubs will play this weekend.

Lincoln City were scheduled to play Doncaster Rovers away from home, but that game has been rearranged until April 21.

This is due to international call-ups for Oisin Gallagher (Republic of Ireland U21), Ryan Oné (Scotland U21), Kamil Conteh (Sierra Leone) and Ivan Varfolomeev (Ukraine U21).

Without these games on, it helps promote more people to watch football for cheaper prices, where the staff are volunteers, and where you can have a pint at the side of the pitch.

With non-league growing in popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic, fans who used to have season tickets at professional clubs have turned to non-league as a source of football.

Also, with volunteers running the clubs, it allows for non-league football to be a lot more community driven and for those interested in the game to have an easy way in both on and off the pitch.

The founder of Non-League Day, James Doe, created the event when he went to visit Devon for a pre-season friendly between Queens Park Rangers and Tavistock – who were the hosts on that day.

On the event, Doe said: “Non-league football is the bedrock of the national game.

“One of the reasons I keep it [Non-League Day] going is it gives clubs a chance to generate their own money rather than having to rely on handouts.”

For this year’s event, both of LincSports’ Lincolnshire non-league teams are playing at home.

Gainsborough Trinity will host Warrington Rylands in the PitchingIn Northern Premier League Premier Division and will be looking to bounce after an unfortunate 1-0 loss to Bamber Bridge on Tuesday.

A 69th minute goal from Kofi Moore saw Bridge get past Trinity at the KAL Group Stadium.

The Holy Blues will be looking for a win to get themselves back into the playoff places as they currently sit sixth – just one space outside.

Lincoln United will be playing Emley AFC at Ashby Avenue in the Pitching In NPL East Division which is a quick turnaround from their 3-0 away win over Brighouse yesterday.

Goals courtesy of Max Baker, Connor Brown and substitute Kane Hutchinson-Wilkes saw United go to 13th place.

A win for the Whites on Non-League Day would solidify themselves in the mid-table and take them a potential 13 points clear of the drop zone.

Both clubs are expected to be holding special events for the day and could put on special offers for the occasion.
