Lincoln City secured the SkyBet League One title this evening, following a dominant display against Doncaster Rovers.

A brace from winger Ben House either side of the break gave the Imps all three points in a game where they only needed one as they extended their unbeaten run to 27 games.

Michael Skubala made one change to his side that would go onto the clinch the trophy as Rob Street returned to the side against his former club.

He came in for Reeco Hackett in a straight swap just three days after his late equaliser against Stevenage earnt the side a 2-2 draw.

House drills home

The Imps remained as resilient as ever in front of a loud Doncaster Rovers crowd as they survived an early scare when Owen Bailey’s effort from 18-yards out was well blocked.

However, from there it was complete domination from the visitors as Sonny Bradley put a header from two-yards out narrowly over and Tom Hamer’s flick was well held inside the first ten minutes.

Then the biggest chance of the half came courtesy of a clever through ball from Tendayi Darikwa before Jack Moylan was brought down inside the penalty area, but Rob Street’s spot kick was saved.

Despite that, the Imps continued to threaten going into the final ten minutes of the half as Hamer found Bradley’s head again with a left footed cross and managed to force a corner from the left.

However, they were eventually rewarded for a dominant first half as a poor clearance fell to Jack Moylan 25-yards out, he rolled the ball into the path of Ben House who finished well first time at the near post.

That brought a first half in which the visitor’s applied pressure throughout and dominated possession and went in at the break with one hand on the title.

Champions again Ole Ole

It was then much of the same shortly after the restart as a Hamer long throw was flicked on, however the referee had blown for a free-kick as the ball hit the net.

Then within a minute, again Rob Street forced Thimothée Lo-Tutala into a good save with his feet as the City fans behind the goal had already began celebrating.

City then wouldn’t threaten again until the final half an hour when Ryan Oné had a powerful volley from 15-yards out well blocked in his final action of the game.

However, it was the man who makes City tick that came closest in the second half as Moylan danced around three Doncaster defenders before he curled a left-footed effort narrowly wide.

Before the Doncaster defence was eventually unlocked again with 20 minutes remaining when House headed home from a Hamer long throw-in.

The visitors didn’t stop there as Street had an effort bounce back off the post to the feet of Reeco Hackett before the ball came back to the striker who could only hit the side-netting.

That was the last action of the game as Michael Skubala’s side managed the game out well to secure the League One title as the celebrations erupted at full-time.

They now welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the LNER Stadium next up where they will be presented with the trophy.
