Michael Skubala wasn’t distracted by his Lincoln City team sitting one point from the EFL Championship after they found a 1-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon yesterday.

Ryan Oné’s 88th minute strike, was enough to give Lincoln City a vital three points in a game where they struggled to break down a bottom half Wimbledon side.

Skubala spoke after the game about the position his side are now in, he said: “We don’t want to stop there.

“We have a great opportunity to keep pushing, there’s six games to go and everyone is talking about promotion, but I think we can win the league.

“If we keep pushing, the way we’re doing, then we can definitely try and do our best to win the league because you don’t have opportunities like this very often.”

However, the 43-year-old did mention that the wind in the game did limit the side’s opportunities throughout the game.

Although Rob Street did still break beyond the visitor’s backline twice in the first 20 minutes, on that he said: “The way he got in was like how we wanted to match plan to play.

“You saw us get into big spaces but the wind just stopped us doing it and it stopped us getting more of those so we were camped in our own half too much.

“We had to weather it and we told the lads not to underestimate how hard that half was and that would pay dividends in the second half when the wind changed.

“It flipped the game in the second half, but we still couldn’t get enough moments like that.”

Although the side did still manage to find one season defining moment in the final two minutes of normal time as Oné turned home from a yard out.

That came despite the Scotland Under-21 international only returning from international duty the day before game day.

Skubala spoke on the impact of him and Ivan Varfolomeev when he said: “They’re both great, having only come back yesterday.

“If I’m honest they looked a bit tired, but that’s natural and I think young players playing when they’re tired is part of their development.

“It’s a grawling league and you have to go Saturday, Tuesday, Friday, Monday so part of their development is understanding themselves from being able to play tired.”

However, Lincloln City now face potentially just one more game that could change their season on Monday as they need one point against Reading to secure promotion.

But, the Englishman said: “No, it doesn’t change the preparations, we’ll keep our methodology and we’ll keep our planning and we’ll keep everything the same because it’s got us to this point.

“There’s no point to change anything we’ll just keep doing what we’re doing.”
