Lincoln City will play Championship football for the first time in the club’s history from next season after a 2-1 win over Reading this weekend left the side 19 points clear of third place.

Defender Sonny Bradley has only missed one SkyBet League one game all season and that came all the way back in September when he was suspended for the 2-2 draw at home against Wigan Athletic.

He described the feeling of promotion, and said: “It’s amazing, there’s a bit of relief but overall I just feel an immense amount of pride and joy.

“Not only for myself, not only for the rest of the team but there’s 3,000 fans behind us and there’s people that have been supporting this football club all their lives.

“This day is for them more than anyone”

“Over the next three or four weeks, there’s going to be time to celebrate and there’s definitely going to be time to celebrate together.

“Right now, I’m slightly emotional. I’m 35 in September and I’ve left everything out there I think I’ve got a slight calf strain but there’s no way I was missing today and not showing up for the lads.

“That’s what it’s all about, it’s about showing up somehow and that’s how we got to this point in a remarkable season.”

There were plenty of doubters for the Imps going into the season as many questioned whether they may even be in a relegation battle.

However, Bradley never had any doubt in the side when he said: “Within three or four weeks of training with this club in pre-season.

“I could not believe that this team finished 11th last season, the talent in the dressing room was unbelievable.

“I understand that we lost a few players in pre-season and they were very good players and then we walked into the dressing room on the first day of the season thinking Jovon Makama was going to play.

“I can understand why fans were thinking today couldn’t happen but we certainly did.”
