Creative midfielder Jack Moylan has officially departed Lincoln City and joined Championship rivals Cardiff City for an undisclosed club record fee.
The Irishman made 88 appearances since joining the Imps from Shelbourne in 2024, netting 21 goals in that time and establishing himself as one of the key players at the club.
Last campaign was a standout season for the number ten as he was the team’s joint top goalscorer in a historic year which saw Lincoln lift the Sky Bet League One title and secure promotion to the EFL Championship.
He will be a big loss for the Imps as they prepare to start one of their most important seasons ever, with the first game just ten days away as Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw’s side face up against Middlesborough at the Riverside Stadium.
On Moylan’s departure, Sporting director Jez George said: “It was not our intention to sell Jack in this window, but Jack made it clear that he wanted to pursue this opportunity, and then every player has their valuation, so once that was agreed, as well as all future contingency payments and our future interest in the player, it was right for Lincoln City to complete the deal.
“Players have one career: it is impossible to deny them life-changing contracts and expect them to be the same player. Jack has contributed to our success, his goal at Reading will remain part of Lincoln City folklore, and we have also contributed to his development, culminating in a debut for the Republic of Ireland.”
The 24-year-old’s hard work and impressive performances last season were rewarded with a first ever call-up to the Republic of Ireland national team, which was an opportunity he seized with both hands – scoring a hat-trick on debut in a 5-0 win against Grenada back in May.
But his time in Lincolnshire has come to an end this summer, with the question now being how will the Imps fill the vacant gap Moylan will leave behind?
