Lincoln City defender Adam Jackson has left the club as a free agent as his contract has been cancelled by mutual consent, putting an end to his a six-year stay at the ProAmpac Stadium.
The 32-year-old joined the Imps in August 2020 after signing from Hibernian, making 150 appearances across all competitions in that time and becoming the clubs longest serving player.
Jackson has been an influential member of the team throughout his time in Lincolnshire, helping the side reach the SkyBet League One play-off final back in 2021, before finally getting over the line and securing promotion to the EFL Championship last term.
However, last campaign the defender struggled to stay fit, featuring just ten times in League One as his side won the title on 103 points.
Those set-backs saw him fall down the pecking order in the centre-back position, with Ryley Towler, Deji Elerewe, Tom Hamer, as well as the likes of Sonny Bradley and new signing Andrei Coubis all being guaranteed more gametime than the veteran this season.
For that reason, the club and player have now decided to part ways, as the experienced defender will now be looking to find a new club that can offer him sufficient first team action after featuring in just one game against Blackpool in the Carabao Cup so far this campaign.
On leaving the club, Jackson said: “It’s been a brilliant six years and I’ve genuinely loved my time at Lincoln City.
“I’ve made some great memories, met some fantastic people, and, most importantly, had the chance to play in front of some brilliant supporters.”

The Middlesbrough academy graduate continued with a heartfelt farewell message directed at the supporters, as he said: “The backing the fans have given me and the team over the years has always been appreciated, and I’m really grateful for the way they’ve supported me throughout my time here.”
Sporting director Jez George also spoke on the defenders departure, as he said: “It is rare in modern football for any player to spend six full seasons at a club, but Jacko has made Lincoln City his home and represented us fantastically well, on and off the pitch.
“This decision hasn’t been made in the last 24 hours: it has just been executed in the last 24 hours, so that Jacko had the longest timeframe to join a club on loan in this window.
“When it became apparent that a suitable and mutually agreeable loan wouldn’t happen, this was the best scenario for Jacko, having told him early in the summer that he wouldn’t be part of our 25-man squad for the Championship.
“In becoming a free agent as we come out of the transfer window, it means that Jacko can sign for any EFL club at any time between now and January.
“He leaves us with huge respect, recognition for his contribution to Lincoln City over six years, our gratitude for his professionalism throughout and our sincere best wishes for him and his young family in the future.”
