The award is voted for by his fellow professionals across the division over the course of the season.

N’Guessan, who is out of contract with the Imps at the end of the season, has been in glistening form since last August and has attracted interest from several Championship clubs. With the Frenchman under the age of 24, the Imps will be entitled to compensation, although 33% of this will go to his former club Glasgow Rangers, who inserted the clause when he moved to Lincoln in January 2007.

The Auxerre academy product has missed just one match this season, scoring 9 goals and is a contender to collect the Imps’ player of the season award.

He follows in the footsteps of Gareth McAuley, who was voted onto the team in 2006, and Lee Frecklington in 2007.
