A competition to create your own couture Momiji collectable friendship dolls is currently running, for those with a flair for fashion and textiles.

Momiji are message dolls, and each doll has a space in its base for a secret message. The dolls echo Tokyo cool, and their official website is overrun with different characters.

They are now offering the creative souls out there the chance to create their own. You can use whatever textile methods you wish, from knitting to printing. The aim is to create a catwalk of Momiji dolls to show off the skill of textile experts around the world.

A shortlist of ten finalists will be chosen by their panel of experts and will be exhibited in Los Angeles. The winning entry will be featured in Selvedge magazine and its creator will get to work with Momiji’s press team to promote their talent.

The competition’s judging panel includes commissioning lifestyle editor at the Times Style magazine, Pip McCormac, as well as famous fashion illustrator from the 60s, Barbara Hulanicki.

Entries will be marked on overall “wow” factor as well as craftsmanship. To read more details on how to enter visit their website.

The deadline is October 30th.
