It’s puzzling that Robert West, the BNP’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Lincoln, is a reverend – or so he claims.

I must admit that I’m not very well versed on the teachings of Jesus, but I can’t remember any sermons where he talked about birching graffiti artists. Or indeed “sending the blacks home”.

West believes in voluntary repatriation and told an interviewer on Three Counties Radio:

The mixing of races challenges the glory of God

In 2008, The Times cited him as a member of the Apostolic Church in Holbeach, Lincolnshire. However, when Jonathan Bartley of religious thinktank “Ekklesia” contacted the Apostolic Church to see if “Rev” West was indeed a part, they had this to say:

If this person has had any association with The Apostolic Church in the past the only means by which he can maintain either his membership or office is by attending one of our churches.

If he were an active member of the Church his views would not be accepted by the Church and disciplinary action would be undertaken by the Church which strongly distances itself from views such as these.

So that’ll be a no, then?
