Lincoln City’s season opener will see them travel to the Don Valley Stadium to face Rotherham United on Saturday, August 7th.
The Millers were close to achieving promotion to NPower League One last year, but were beaten in the play-off final against Dagenham.
When Lincoln played Rotherham last season away from home in late November 2009, they were beaten 2-0 courtesy of an Adam Le Fondre double.
The first game of the season at Sincil Bank will be against Torquay United on Saturday, August 14th. This will provide the recent acquisition to Chris Sutton’s side, Mustapha Carayol, with a chance to play his former club after signing a deal that will keep him at Sincil Bank until 2012.
The festive period will see the Imps take on Port Vale away on Boxing Day. When both teams met last season at Vale Park, Imps fans will remember a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of the Valiants, that went down as Lincoln’s worst defeat of last season.
Yet former Vale keeper Joe Anyon, who was released by the Staffordshire outfit, signed for the Imps in May on a two-year deal and will no doubt be looking to prevent his former teammates from repeating last year’s result.
The ever important last game of the season will see Lincoln host Aldershot at Sincil Bank on Saturday, May 7th. Last season the Imps recorded a 1-0 victory against the Shots at home, with the only goal of the game coming from Sergio Torres, which also proved to be his first and last for the Imps.
