Nominations for the SU by-elections are now open.
There are five part-time positions to be filled: events officer, the three satellite campus officers, and societies officer.
During the elections in March 2010, all five of these positions were uncontested, with no applicants at all. Some speculated that this was an “SU failing” whilst others placed blame on “apathetic students”.
These unfilled positions leave a hole in the SU’s representative front.
Societies feel neglected because of a percieved bias towrads sports from Andreas Zacharia, vice-president sports and societies. Also, there have been no representatives for Hull, Riseholme or Holbeach campuses in the past year.
Furthermore, contested positions were decided by a fragment of the student population — with just a 16% turnout for SU elections.
To enter the by-elections, nomination forms have to be submitted both via email and in person to Marianne McCall, deputy returning officer (mmccall@lincoln.ac.uk), by 10am on Friday, November 5th.
After nominations have closed, voting will take place online from Thursday, November 11th, to 9.00am Thursday, November 18th, and the results will be announced at the All-Students Meeting on November.
