Lincoln City have signed Sunderland goalkeeper Trevor Carson on a month’s loan.
The 22-year-old goes straight into manager Steve Tilson’s squad to face Stockport County this weekend, and is likely to make his debut in the absence of Joe Anyon.
Despite not having played a Premier League game for Sunderland, Carson was called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad in February last year by Nigel Worthington.
His only previous competitive experience prior to his move to Sincil Bank came in the 2008/09 season when he was loaned out to Chesterfield, where he made 18 appearances for The Spireites.
An injury to the Imps’ number one Joe Anyon had initially sparked somewhat of a panic for Steve Tilson, as he found himself with only one available senior goalkeeper – the 42-year-old goalkeeping coach Paul Musselwhite, who hasn’t started a Football League match in nearly five years.
Securing the highly-rated Carson’s signature is somewhat of a coup for Lincoln as the youngster has found himself on the Sunderland bench as back-up to both Craig Gordon and Simon Mignolet on many occasions this campaign.
