Captain of Lincoln Ladies FC Casey Stoney will be dying her hair red for Comic Relief after the team reached their first fundraising target.
Stoney agreed to dye her hair red if the team raised £250 and, after achieving this target in just two days, she has decided to dye her hair ready for the team’s game at Sincil Bank against the Chelsea Ladies on March 17th, 2013.
However, if the Lady Imps manage to reach their next target of £500, Martha Harris, Meaghan Sargeant and Bonnie Horwood will join Stoney in dying their hair red. With the current donations adding up to nearly £450, it looks as if they might accomplish their next target.
Red Nose Day, which aims to change the lives of those who need it here in the UK and in Africa, takes place on Friday, March 15th.
Rachel Collier, the Fan Experience Executive who joined the club earlier this year, said: “It’s a great cause and we wanted to do something to raise more money for Comic Relief and to make a difference.”
To encourage fans to donate, the Lady Imps will participate in a challenge day in which the team will get involved in three different football activities. They will take on dizzy penalty taking, blind folded shot stopping and a keepy uppy competition with a twist.
The challenge day will be filmed and posted both on their website and on their social media pages to give their fans the chance to watch them being funny for money.
The club, which has recently appointed new manager Rick Passmoor, will play their first home match of the FA Women’s Cup Fifth Round on March 17th. Collier said: “This ties in nicely with Red Nose Day, which is just a couple of days before the match.”
